What Are Practice-Only Teams?
Texas Mayhem’s Fall Practice Teams are a weekly training experience for players ages 8–16. Designed for skill development and basketball IQ growth, this program is perfect for athletes not ready or interested in fall competition but still want elite coaching.
Training Philosophy:
Game Ready Learning
At Texas Mayhem, we don’t just go through the motions — we train with purpose. Our Fall Practice-Only Teams are rooted in a decision-based teaching model inspired by Chris Oliver. Every session is structured to simulate real game scenarios so players can build instincts, not just routines.
That means no choreographed “on-air” cone drills. Instead, athletes engage in small-sided games, guided defense, and constraints-led learning, all designed to build basketball IQ, adaptability, and confidence in live situations.
Our coaching staff teaches players to think the game, communicate under pressure, and apply team concepts in a constantly changing environment. Whether you're 8 or 16, you’ll develop decision-making tools that translate directly to the court — not just in drills, but in actual game moments.

Coaches & Leadership
Built on Mayhem Culture

At Texas Mayhem, coaching is more than instruction, it’s mentorship built on a proven culture of discipline, accountability, and high standards. Our Practice-Only Teams are led by former college players who understand what it takes to grow in this game and in life. The Mayhem culture is rooted in effort, honesty, and humility. Our coaches don’t just teach skills, they model toughness, decision-making, and respect.
“Coach didn’t just show me how to dribble or shoot. He showed me how to think, how to push through, and how to lead. I came in nervous, I left confident.”
— Eli J., 7th Grade Guard
This isn’t a gym full of shouting and cones. It’s a space where players are challenged to become thinkers, teammates, and competitors. We hold players to a standard that prepares them for high school, college, and beyond, even if this program is just one practice a week. When you train in the Mayhem system, you’re part of something bigger, a culture where grit meets teaching, and every rep has purpose.
